Counseling is a brave space for clients to explore their experience, rewrite their narratives, and build stronger relationships. I also believe in a holistic approach to therapy to ensure all aspects of a person’s life are considered. Through my own mental health journey, I have learned the significance of collaborating with mind, body, and spirit. As a Black woman, I understand the need to provide mental health services to Black and minority communities, and to help eliminate negative stigmas about mental health for people of color. I am a sex-positive individual, who encourages identities outside of heteronormativity. I aim to help clients embark on their own wellness journeys and to cultivate a quality of life that reflects their personal values, cultures, and beliefs. I will use elements of DBT, Somatic, AEDP, Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing modalities to individualize treatment for each client’s specific needs and goals. I strive for a therapeutic relationship that can be the foundation for continual healing and growth, where learning takes the forefront and challenging discussions are encouraged. I tend to work best with college students and young adults who look “high-functioning” on the outside but feel overwhelmed on the inside. Many of the students I see are smart, reflective, and trying hard — yet struggling with anxiety, mood swings, burnout, panic, or a constant feeling of pressure to perform or hold everything together. You might feel stuck between who you were expected to be and who you’re becoming. You may overthink conversations, feel emotionally exhausted, struggle with motivation, or feel disconnected from yourself or others. Some students I work with have experienced past stress or trauma that still shows up in their body — through anxiety, sleep issues, emotional shutdown, or feeling on edge — even if “nothing bad” seems to be happening now. In therapy, we move at your pace. You don’t need to have the right words or a clear goal right away. My approach is supportive, curious, and collaborative — focused on helping you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and develop tools that actually feel usable in real life. Therapy with me is a space to slow down, feel less alone, and build steadiness during a demanding and uncertain chapter of life. I am the best fit for those with a history of interpersonal trauma, relationship or family challenges, adjustment issues, and/or anxiety. Many individuals that I see are feelings stuck in a relationship--with themselves, a parent, a sibling, a partner, a colleague, or a friend. I support clients to gain more awareness around the ways that their histories, thoughts, and feelings inform their relationship patterns and then support them with tools to adjust those patterns were needed. I also believe that healing happens through reparative relationships--between therapist and client, with our loved ones, and with ourselves. As such, I seek to relate to my clients in a transparent, deeply human, and sometimes humorous way. In this way, I hope to act as a template to empower them to practice relating to others and themselves differently so that their needs can be honored and met.
