Therapists for college students near 20064
I'm here to meet you where you are and get you to where you want to be. I believe therapy is most effective when it feels like a partnership, and I truly enjoy helping people grow into the best version of themselves. My role is to guide and support you as we explore your experiences, deepen your self-understanding, and work toward meaningful change. I'm honored and excited to walk alongside you on your journey. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with 6 years of experience supporting individuals through life’s challenges. I specialize in working with clients who are struggling with depression and anxiety, and I’m passionate about helping people create meaningful change in their lives.
Therapy for college, graduate students, and student athletes - social justice oriented. Queer and genderqueer affirmative. A a therapist I specialize in working with first generation college students, athletes, acculturation, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and trauma. College is tough! I specialize in anxiety, imposter anxiety, perfectionism, sleep, and mood. Are you overwhelmed trying to figure out the future while managing life obligations and feel like no one understands you? Together we will figure out unhealthy behaviors and relationships that do not serve you, learn skills to manage stress, and make changes to live a balanced, more meaningful life. I strive Likewise, I strive to provide a safe space to process unique experiences of systemic racism, injustice, and inequity. What will therapy be like? It will be a blend of discussing stress and learning skills. Don't want to talk? That's cool too- let's learn skills. I use both relational and research informed approaches (meaning research studies have found these therapies help people feel better, so they work!) including Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills.
I offer virtual, individual psychotherapy to clients located in Washington DC, Virginia, and Florida. All sessions are individually tailored to not only help you gain skills to relieve your symptoms, but also to develop insight into unhelpful patterns, so you can live a more fulfilling and peaceful life that aligns with your values. I am an intentional integrationist, which is a fancy way of saying I am trained in many therapeutic approaches to help you based on your needs, experiences, preferences, and style of learning. This allows me to offer a tailored approach that is just right for you. Often, clients don’t know exactly what they want or need from a therapist. I listen closely to how you describe the concerns bringing you to therapy, what you’ve tried, what you want to change about your life, and when you are at your best—all to determine the optimal approach to treatment. My experience with myriad interventions allows me to be highly flexible and pivot quickly based on your ongoing feedback. You can expect us to continually explore what is working well, how we are tracking toward your goals, and what, if anything, you want to change to optimize what you're getting from therapy. I see clients as the “pilot” of the metaphorical journey of therapy, and myself as an expert co-pilot and navigator. You decide where we go, our speed, and when to “refuel,” while I help provide the most efficient way to reach your chosen destination. Sometimes clients change their mind about their destination mid-journey. That’s okay! I am right there to help us change course smoothly. My goal is to help you to feel heard, empowered, supported, and above all to feel better. My technical approach to therapy is informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), as well as relational and psychodynamic models of therapy. As a clinical social worker, my therapeutic style is client-centered, trauma-informed, and is guided by the multicultural, strengths, and person-in-environment perspectives. Regardless of the customized treatment plan I employ, building and tending to a trusting therapeutic relationship with you is at the heart of what I do. In every session, you can expect a warm, collaborative, inclusive approach that honors your lived experiences, embraces your strengths, and is identity-affirming for clients of all backgrounds. I’m honored you’re considering me as a partner on your wellness journey. If you’re ready to take the first step toward positive change, email me today to schedule a free 15-30 minute consultation to see if I’m a good fit to be your therapist. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi, I'm Simran, and I work with college students and young adults who are navigating the challenges that come with this stage of life. College can bring a lot of change, pressure, and uncertainty, and sometimes it helps to have a space where you can talk openly and feel supported. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, overthinking, relationship concerns, stress, self-esteem, life transitions, or feeling stuck, therapy can help you better understand yourself and develop tools to handle life's challenges. My approach is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I strive to create a space where you feel comfortable being yourself and where we can work together toward your goals. You don't need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. If you're looking for support, insight, or a place to process what you're going through, I'd be happy to work with you.
Everyone has a story. Do you ever find yourself feeling overwhelmed by thoughts that bring fear, leading to a cycle of overthinking? Do you tend to be tough on yourself, which can result in feelings of sadness, loneliness, or isolation? Are there times in your relationships when you feel unheard, leaving you frustrated and unsure? Have you considered that things could get better? Just remember, you're not alone in this. There’s hope! Many people go through similar struggles with relationships, challenging thoughts, and a mix of emotions.
College life can feel like a high-speed juggling act. Classes, relationships, deadlines, family expectations, and trying to take care of yourself all compete for your attention. Do you have a sense that people don’t get you? Do you travel a different path than everybody else? Are you living your life very differently from what other people expect you to? Do people tell you that sometimes you are thinking way outside the box? Are your parents different from you and do they want you to be someone else? Life can be tough when you feel different. Different can also mean isolated, lonely, and misunderstood. It can also mean constantly asking yourself: Will I ever fit in? Can anybody understand me? Why can’t people accept me for who I am? Am I doing the right thing? Will I be happy? That’s what I can help you with. BE DIFFERENT AND STILL FIT IN. The therapist-client relationship is a collaborative one, where you are an expert on yourself and we work together towards your goals. I strive to tailor therapy to best fit your needs. My approach to working with clients is practical and straightforward, yet warm, genuine, and supportive.
Of all the relationships we have in our lives, I believe that the one you have with yourself is the most important and impactful. Therapy allows a person to create an authentic relationship with oneself. Through the therapeutic process, a person is able to find and access their own innate ability to heal and grow within a supportive, compassionate, and empowering environment. My passion for this work comes from seeing my clients evolve to feel happier and healthier in their daily lives. As a therapist, I will always meet my clients where they are at the moment. My approach to therapy is holistic. I believe that therapy is client-led and my job is to walk with you side-by-side in your journey toward healing and growth. During sessions, I will lead with sensitivity, curiosity, and support. Our initial process will involve getting to know each other and developing a strong foundation of trust and safety. My ideal client is someone who is open to creating a partnership and ready to take on their counseling journey. This individual is ready to dive into some deep work and willing to be honest and is open to trusting a direct therapist to help them navigate life. This individual might not be aware of their issues at this time, but they are open to exploring them and creating goals to become a healthier version of themselves.
This process of being and becoming that we engage with as humans can simultaneously be both beautiful and incredibly challenging. The decision to take part in therapy can begin a transformative process that allows you to develop greater insight as well as ignite necessary behavioral changes. This can help promote greater well-being, vitality, healing, growth, resiliency, and self-actualization. There is perhaps no greater gift to give yourself than to invest in a process of self-exploration. Such exploration will better enable you to develop a deeper connection with your authentic self so that you may reach your optimal potential. Ultimately, engaging in therapy can be an empowered step toward claiming a life that feels more fulfilling, intentional and aligned with your goals. In turn, there is no greater honor for me than to get to share a part of your journey. I believe therapy to be a collaborative and relational process. You can expecte me to treat you with compassion and respect. I am a licensed psychologist in private practice after working in university counseling centers since 2003. Most recently, I served as the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services at George Washington University since June 2020 after serving as Director of Counseling at Ursinus College since 2013. Prior to that I’ve worked in the counseling centers at Drexel, Columbia and Princeton University after completing my pre-doctoral internship at the counseling center at Johns Hopkins University and receiving my PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Georgia in 2010. Prior to that, I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology from Washington and Lee University and my master’s degree in psychological counseling from Teacher’s College, Columbia University Collectively, these roles allowed me to identify my passion for providing quality mental health services to the adult and young adult population, particularly in helping the undergraduate and graduate students navigate through identity, relational and transitional concerns and stressors. In these roles, I both provided direct therapy to university students as well as oversight for the delivery of counseling services- including staff supervision and management, evaluation and assessment of services and programs, establishing best practices for the centers that met the needs of the campus community and supported student development objectives as well as the academic mission. I most enjoyed working directly with students to address both clinical and developmental issues and frequently experienced that through therapy, they could better realize their potential. I am very excited to be returning to a purely clinical role to dedicate my energy to providing direct therapy. I provide a warm, compassionate, supportive and empowering environment in which I meet individuals where they are and help them to feel seen, heard, and affirmed in order to heal, learn and grow. I believe that each client must be understood as an individual whose sense of self has been informed through many social, cultural and relational interactions.

The clients I work best with often share a readiness to engage deeply with their own personal growth and face life's challenges head-on. They typically come from diverse backgrounds but share common experiences such as navigating life transitions, dealing with anxiety or depression, and seeking to improve their communication and relationship skills. My clients are often those who value a reflective and supportive space where they can explore their thoughts and emotions to foster healing and personal development. They appreciate a collaborative approach where they are active participants in their therapeutic journey.
